Metabolic Profiles in Obese Children and Adolescents with Insulin Resistance
BACKGROUND In the past several decades, the increasing frequency of overweight and obese children and adolescents in the world has become a public health problem. It has contributed significantly to the already high tide of diabetes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. AIM To investigate the frequency of insulin resistance and to evaluate the metabolic profile of insulin resistant an...
متن کاملBreast cancer is associated to impaired glucose/insulin homeostasis in premenopausal obese/overweight patients
The association between breast cancer (BCa) presence and altered glucose/insulin metabolism is controversial likely due to an inaccurate insulin resistance (IR) assessment and inappropriate stratification of patients by body-mass index (BMI) and menopausal state. 148 women with suspect of sporadic BCa were stratified by BMI and menopause. Fasting levels of glucose, insulin, glycohemoglobin and ...
متن کاملThe “Lipid Accumulation Product” Is Associated with 2-Hour Postload Glucose Outcomes in Overweight/Obese Subjects with Nondiabetic Fasting Glucose
"Lipid accumulation product" (LAP) is a continuous variable based on waist circumference and triglyceride concentration previously associated with insulin resistance. We investigated the accuracy of LAP in identifying oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) abnormalities and compared it to the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in a population of overweight/obese outpatient...

OBJECTIVES. To investigate the demographic characteristics and insulin resistance in local overweight/obese Chinese children with and without acanthosis nigricans, and the associations of acanthosis nigricans with insulin resistance and other cardiometabolic co-morbidities. DESIGN. Case series with cross-sectional analyses. SETTING. A regional hospital in Hong Kong. PATIENTS. Chinese children a...
متن کاملGlucose metabolism disorder in obese children assessed by continuous glucose monitoring system.
BACKGROUND Continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) can measure glucose levels at 5-minute intervals over a few days, and may be used to detect hypoglycemia, guide insulin therapy, and control glucose levels. This study was undertaken to assess the glucose metabolism disorder by CGMS in obese children. METHODS Eighty-four obese children were studied. Interstitial fluid (ISF) glucose levels...
